Alpine Hiking & Mountain Goats
Moderate to Strenuous. British Columbia has the largest concentration of mountain goats in the world, and the mountains surrounding the Bulkley Valley are home to a large percentage of that population. Wildlife Viewing
Easy. One of the special qualities of the Smithers’ area is the variety and abundance of wildlife species. We’ll take you on a series of short hikes and tours to some of the most likely wildlife viewing areas! Target species include; moose, mountain goats, lynx, black and grizzly bear, wolves and wolverine. Alpine Wildflowers
Moderate. With easy access to the alpine meadows of the Hazelton and Skeena Mountains that surround the beautiful Bulkley Valley, a cornucopia of mountain wildflowers are yours to discover on our series of easy to moderate hikes. Wildflowers and Plants of the Boreal
Easy - Moderate. Come and learn the orchids, lilies, shrubs, trees and ferns of Northern British Columbia during a four-day field course with guide Patrick Williston, a professional botanist based in Smithers. Here you will get a chance to see mountain fairy slippers (Cypripedium montanum), chocolate lilies (Fritillaria camschatensis) and calla lilies (Calla palustris) in their natural habitats. You will also discover how to find rare moonworts (Botrychium spp.), minute ferns believed during the mideival period to have magical properties. With daily likes to local botanical hotspots you will gain a solid footing on the region’s diverse flora and even learn a few northern mosses and lichens. Fall Colours of the Bulkley Valley

Easy: Able to hike along a rolling trail while carrying a day pack
Moderate: Able to hike uphill for continuous periods while carrying a day pack.
